Auto Locksmith Specialists covers the full Peugeot range — older 206, 307 and 407 models, the 108, 208, 308, 508 and the 2008, 3008 and 5008 SUVs, plus Partner, Expert and Boxer vans and the electric e-208 and e-2008. Peugeot has used several key formats over the years: plain blade keys, two and three-button flip remotes on VA2 and HU83 blade profiles, and proximity keys on newer models with keyless entry and starting. We cut and programme replacements at your vehicle using professional diagnostic equipment, so the car does not need recovering to a Peugeot dealer.
The BSI module and coding a key
Almost everything on a modern Peugeot runs through the BSI — the Built-in Systems Interface. It is the central body control module, and it handles central locking, lighting, the instrument panel and the immobiliser. A Peugeot key is not simply cut and handed over: the transponder inside it has to be written into the BSI, and that needs the vehicle's confidential PIN code. That code is on the original code card supplied with the car, and where the card has been lost it can usually be read from the BSI through the diagnostic port. Transponder chips used across the 2000s and 2010s are commonly the Hitag2 ID46 type. Once a transponder has been coded to one BSI it cannot be moved to a different vehicle, which is exactly why a secondhand or self-fitted fob bought online so often fails to take — and why buying one rarely turns out to be the saving it looks like.
Locked out, or a worn ignition
We use non-destructive entry on Peugeot door mechanisms, so you keep your door frame, window seal and trim intact. Worn ignition barrels are a genuine Peugeot pattern fault, particularly on the 206 and 307, where the key becomes stiff, will not turn, or will not come back out. The barrel wears in step with the key, so a tired key and a tired barrel usually arrive together. We repair or replace the barrel and key it to your existing key, so you are not left carrying two different keys.
Remote faults and all keys lost
The other regular Peugeot call-out is a remote that has stopped working after a flat battery or a battery disconnection. The BSI needs roughly three minutes of inactivity to go to sleep, and cutting power before that can leave it in a confused state — immobiliser warnings, central locking that ignores the fob, dashboard faults. Remotes can also drop out of sync and need resynchronising to the car. We diagnose these on site. All keys lost is handled too: we read the vehicle's data and generate and code a new key from scratch, with no working key needed. We cover Peugeot across Dorset, Hampshire and Salisbury, 24 hours a day.
